Katy's Mini-Break

  1. Drinking my tea.
  2. Sunflowers.
  3. Working on a little crochet project.
  4. Jeremy playing with his horse.
  5. Katy and I.
  6. Admiring our toenails.
  7. Alicia's new necklace.
  8. My new necklace.
  9. Girls at play.

My youngest sister, Katy, has come to stay with her two children. Alicia, aged 4 ("I'm nearly 5!!") and Jeremy aged 3. It is all total, joyful chaos (although I wasn't saying that at 6am this morning after getting up twice in the night with the little monkeys.)

I had planned excursions, day trips and all manner of exciting activities. It turns out all Katy wants to do is relax, which is fine by me. This morning we went to the park, then to the shops to buy ice creams and nail varnish. After lunch all us girls painted our nails. Katy and I have drank a lot of tea, watched the Olympics, chatted on the sofa. The kids have played inside, outside, everywhere. Currently, Bella and Alicia are upstairs engrossed in sticker books while Angus and Jeremy are both asleep on the sofa.

Katy is young and trendy. She wears very short shorts and has an iPhone. The above photos were taken with her phone - oh, how I want an iPhone! She has re-tuned the radio in my kitchen to Radio 1. I haven't listened to Radio 1 since I was about 18. Sisters are brutally honest. Me - "Do you think I need more make-up?" Katy - "Yes."

I am loving having her here.

    1. Nice to have some girly time. But the house is total chaos. It looks like a toy bomb has exploded! x

    1. Sisters rule. I can't imagine what having a brother would be like. The best thing is watching all the kids play together, it warms my heart. :-) x

  4. Ooh nice photies! Love them. My 2 beautiful sisters. Wish I could be there too to join in the fun. Jennifer is also wishing she could join Bella and Alicia but I had to explain about the sleeping arrangments and the lack of bedroom space. Have a great week all of you. xxx

    1. It goes without saying that we miss you and wish you were here too! So far Bella and Alicia have played beautifully together, it's really lovely to watch. Jeremy and Angus circle each other warily. Not too many tears. xxx

    1. I went on a learn to crochet course a few months back, I knew I would never be able to teach myself. I'm really enjoying it but I'm definitely still at beginner level. x

  9. It sounds like you're having a wonderful fun time. How I miss my sister, she died 13 years ago. It's good that Bella and Angus have cousins too, Daniel and Eleanor don't have any cousins.

    1. Oh Jo, I am so sorry. What a loss. You must miss her so much. Bella and Angus cousins all live 250 miles away and they only get together 2 or 3 times a year, but it is still a special relationship.

  10. What a lovely post and I love your photo collage! Just super - you look so happy! It's lovely that Bella and Angus have cousins so similar in age - source of enormous fun both now and in time to come (and not just for the little ones either but their parents too!) Enjoy every minute, Gillian. E x

    1. The collage was such fun to put together! My camera battery was dead so we used Katy's iPhone...hours of fun to be had there. We are having fun but gosh, I am tired. x

  12. I love your photo collage Gillian! How fun to get to SEE you ~ you look just as beautiful, fun and kind as I imagined (and so much like your sister!).

I am wondering how far apart in age you are? I dream of a future where my daughters get together with their children, sip coffee and get brutally honest with each other like best friends do.

    Enjoy!

    1. Oh Jenny that is very kind. I am very shy about putting photos of myself on the blog, so thank you for that.

Katy is 6 years younger than me (she is 28, I am 34). It was a difficult age gap as we grew up, and it wasn't until we were both in our twenties that we became friends. My other sister, Anna, is 2 years younger than me and we have always been close. They both live on the South Coast, very near my parents, which is a large reason why I find it hard to settle in Leeds which is so far away! Ok, far in UK terms not US terms!

    1. Rachel am I almost hallucinating with tiredness. I have been up two or three times each night this week with the monkeys, and up at 6. But it's been fab.

I'm sure Bella will fill the role of Phoebe's sister in any complicated role play games!

    1. Thanks, it was happy and chaotic. I am lucky to have sisters, even if they do live at the other end of the country.
