We've had the most glorious weather here today - warm and sunny with fresh breezes and deep blue skies. Perfect. It was John's day off (he'll be working right through the bank holiday weekend) and we spent as much time as possible pottering in the garden. The kitchen door was wide open all day long, something which always makes me happy. I love to feel that connection between outside and inside and to hear the sounds of summer coming through the house; you know, buzzing bees, lawn mowers, neighbour's radios, kids shouting, traffic (I do live in a city). It makes me feel alive and connected to those around me.
I tried a new recipe for peppermint thumbprint cookies from this book. John, whose favourite ice cream flavour is mint choc chip, declared them a great success.
The kids ate their tea outside and afterwards, in between clearing the plates away and tidying up the toys and bringing in the washing, I noticed the light. That dreamy, hazy, low and bright early evening light that makes everything look golden.
It's the promise of summer coming.

It's been a wonderful day here as well - I drove home from North Norfolk in the evening light it glowed. We've run around the woods in the sunshine today - no shorts but short sleeves and sun cream needed all day. Signs of summer is on it's way and that the long winter is behind us
ReplyDeleteOur back door was open after school today but sadly not yet warm enough to eat outside!
ReplyDeletethose cookies look good.

ReplyDeleteDoesn't it make you feel good when the sun shines. We had a picnic lunch outside watching my son's cricket. I thought the light was fantastic tonight too - and such a wonderful sunset here. I've loaded the photos already.
ReplyDeleteGlad your days are lighter and brighter. Know exactly how you feel with a shift working hubby, as it's what I've known all my life, with both father and husband and you have to make the most of their days off. The biscuits look lovely and I'm a fan of peppermint too! Enjoy the weekend. Great pics as always.
ReplyDeleteOh the weather with you looks beautiful ... it's still cold here but the skies have been mostly blue ... love your strawberry photo ... Bee xx
ReplyDeleteI love that evening light. You've captured it perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI love how you detail the day to day norms of our lives - gathering the washing in at the end of the day and the sounds from outside. Your blog is real, Gillian. You know what I mean?

Everything is making me a bit giddy with excitement at the moment - it's all soooo welcome. Open windows, washing on the line, eating outdoors - simple things but oh so appreciated! Jane x

ReplyDeleteYou captured the evening light perfectly! I am in such need of sunlight...it's been cool, cloudy and grey for days upon days here. Your sunny photos are making me very happy right now! The strawberries look delicious as do the cookies.
ReplyDeleteWe ate outside too. It's been lovely feeling the warmth of the sun again. I've enjoyed pottering in the garden and seeing the new shoots coming through. Hope you enjoy the weekend despite the fact that your OH has to work.
