If you'd asked me earlier how my weekend was I would have thought of the poorly children, the endless doses of Calpol, the broken sleep and the almost constant whining and monkey-clinging from Angus and thought...my weekend was hard work.
But now, as I look back through these photos I realise that, actually, it was a rather lovely, cosy Autumn weekend, despite the illness and tiredness. My parents came to stay and so Bella and Angus enjoyed many cuddles, stories and undivided, patient grandparent attention. They helped an awful lot in the garden, and I enjoyed some precious knitting/crocheting and chatting time with my Mum, something we don't get to do together very often. And it appears we achieved rather a lot over the weekend. No wonder I'm tired today! I hope you all had a great weekend too, and hello new followers, it's very nice to have you here. I'm now going to make a cup of tea and catch up on my blog reading. That's if Angus will let me.
Oooh, I love your little nature/autumn display. I'm going to go out with my scissors and see what I can find! Hope you are all well this week, it is exhausting when everyone needs mummy :) xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. Autumn leaf collecting is one of my favourite things to do, and I can pretend I am doing stimulating crafting with the kids at the same time! x
DeleteSounds like a great weekend. Contact paper (the clear stuff - sticky backed plastic) is great for capturing leaves between
ReplyDeleteI have some but never thought to use it for leaves. Great idea, thanks Jen.
DeleteWhat beautiful photos - love your morning light one. You make me wantto rush home and do a beautiful arrangement on my sideboard! Hope Angus & Bella are on the mend - it is exhausting when they are poorly.
ReplyDeleteThanks - they are both very chipper and Angus is up to mischief which is a good sign that he is back to normal! x
DeleteHope Angus is better soon. Looks like you managed a lovely weekend nevertheless.
ReplyDeleteWell done for seeing and savouring the positive, it makes all the hard work so much easier if you can appreciate those simple, special moments. Hope Angus gets better and you all have a good week! Rachel xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab weekend- the weather was perefctly autumnal! Hoping Angus and Bella are better soon! Gorgeous photos x
ReplyDeleteWhat a busy weekend. You put me to shame as we spent most of sunday in our pjs! Hope your week is as wonderful (minus the illnesses of course)?x
ReplyDeleteWow Gillian, for a house full of illness you certainly accomplished a lot! Well done. Thanks for your lovely comment over on my blog, it's made my day! x
ReplyDeleteHey Gillian,Smashing post,Thank you for sharing, the jam tarts look very yummy
ReplyDeleteHope all's well with you, also hope you got your cuppa!!

Thanks so much everyone. I am already regretting my decision to keep Angus back from nursery today - he is bouncing off the walls, climbing on things, giggling, getting up to mischief and generally quite well! x
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how KP used to be - coughing all night, fretful mum kept child at home, only to regret it later when KP was hyper and enjoying her day off school! Lots of coughing here too at the moment - we did a lot of pruning in the garden too with a few visits to the tip!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of the week.

Amazing colours, and I want a jam tart now! You're very prepared with the old Christmas cake! x
ReplyDeleteYou have done a lot! Liking the leave pics and those jam tarts are perfect, look just like my mum's ones - I need to make some with all the blackberries we picked for jam! The Christmas cake, a good reminder for me to start planning mine!
ReplyDeleteSo thanks, Ivan.
Dear Gillian
ReplyDeleteI think your weekend was very busy and productive - lovely photos. (The washing one made me laugh!) Like you, I did find time to enjoy the weather, which was just as well as it wasn't so nice today.
Best wishes
Ellie

ReplyDeleteso it was a good and normal family balanced weekend ;)
ReplyDeletewhat sun you're having!
Looks like you had a beautiful weekend....lovely photos! I hope Angus is feeling well soon. I assume that is your kitchen cabinet in the leaf art photo. I love the cabinet color and pewter hardware! Would love to see more photos of your kitchen!
ReplyDeleteThat yarn looks lush, can't wait to see more of the hat. Also loving jam tarts and your super splendid and prettyfull knee patches, girl after my own heart!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous blog!! I really enjoyed your pictures!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that you've already baked your Christmas cake. I aim to make mine in the October half term but rarely manage even that.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos which seemed to sum up lovely moments in your weekend. It's nice to overlook the sneezles and wheezles when you have your Mum nearby, and you can bake and make leaf collages : -)
ReplyDeletelooks like a beautiful weekend. i love how you patched your jeans!
ReplyDeleteLovely autumnal photos! I bake our Christmas cake in late November, or try to. I've often made it the day before Christmas Eve, put the almond paste (not shop bought marzipan, heaven forefend!) on it on Christmas Eve and and have iced it then right away, and it's always been great on Christmas Day! I think there is a lot of bunkum spoken about making a cake early. This is traditional because it arises from when the fruits were available, now we can buy the stuff all the time, so there really is no rush. Having made a cake early and one very late, there is really a lot of mythology spoken of a cake 'maturing'. The best thing is to make it when you can fit it into your work schedule. But make all of it. Not just the cake but the almond paste and the royal icing. None of that roll on stuff which isn't icing at all.

Oooh what beautiful images and knitting too! Just perfect! x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos and a dazzling array of accomplishments given the poorly children / house guests / general chaos which can ensue...I'm particularly impressed that you've made the Christmas cake already; it's still on my (very) long list of things! Love, love, love your jeans patches - inspired!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are lovely and they capture the colours of Autumn beautifully. I'm realising how precious weekends are now that Jennifer has started school. Looks like you made the most of yours despite having poorly children. Hope they are feeling better today. xxx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo. The lighting and shadows in the last one is lovely. So nice that your parents are around spending time with the little ones. Does sound like you did a lot!
ReplyDeleteLovely last photo and also the jam tarts look yummy! You really made great use of the weekend!
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a lovely weekend, a proper family weekend, just a pity it had to involve Calpol!
ReplyDeleteI MUST have one of those jam tarts! They look a-mazing! x
