Perks

Today you will find me here. In between the school run, errands and the demands of a toddler I hope to spend a little time sitting in this chair today, under the apple tree, enjoying the sun on my face. One of the perks of being at home full time with children is making the most of the sunny weather, whatever the day of the week. The garden becomes another room to play in, eat in, relax in. Which is just as well as it makes up for the reduced income and those days when you feel that all you've done is wipe noses, faces, kitchen counters, tables...sometimes I feel that I permanently have either a dish cloth in my hand. But not today! Hurrah for the erratic, unpredictable but still lovely British Summer.

What are you doing today? I hope you find time to enjoy some sunshine.

  1. Oh how I envy you today. I DID NOT want to come to work - I keep gazing out of my window wishing and wishing that I was outside. The students are only gettong half of me...

    1. Oh Karen, boo to work, I am sorry. I hope you can get away quickly and race home for a gin and tonic in the garden!

  2. What a perfect place to sit and relax with the sun shining down on you. It is so much easier to be a mum when the sun is shining and you can ditch the dishcloth. We always try to teach outside as much as we can in the summer weeks - the children love it xx

    1. I have such fond memories of summer classes outside at Junior school. Of course we never did much work because we were too excited about being outside! (I'm sure your pupils are much better behaved though!)

  3. Enjoy it! Looks like a great spot to soak up the sunshine. It's cold and grey in Cape Town today and I'm all wrapped up. x

    1. I imagined that the sun shone permanently in SA so am perversely pleased to hear that it is sometimes cold! (Sorry.)

    1. Rhubarb crisp and toddler dance classes sound fun though. I did come inside at lunchtime to do some baking, and run around with a dish cloth in my hand!

  5. PIMMS!!! Now that idea is in my head it will never leave. Would it be really bad to be a bit tipsy when I go and collect Bella at 3.15? How the playground mummy mafia would talk!

  6. Looks delightful! A good book, a cup of tea and the world on mute (apart from the birds chirping) and you'd be all set! Momma's need their sit down spots to be special... it's not often they get used :) I hope you enjoyed your day in the sunshine x

  7. You're so right - enjoying the outdoors whenever I want to makes laundry, dirty dishes and endless food prep easier to swallow. It's definitely a huge perk of the job.

Now for this talk of Pimms - I keep hearing about it from these British bloggers I follow. I'm in the U.S. so please, fill me in!

    1. Oh Pimms, I could write a whole post on it! It's basically an alcoholic drink that you mix with lemonade, usually in a big jug, adding chopped fresh fruit, cucumber and mint to the mix to make a delicious and refreshing summery drink. It is very British - it makes me think of things like Wimbledon and strawberries and cream. It's quite a celebratory drink I think, we tend to make it when we have people over and can share it.

  9. Looks like a beautiful spot. I love those chairs and I love the dry stone wall even more. We enjoyed a lovely day in the sun with the children splashing in the paddling pool. Let's hope the weather lasts for the weekend. xxx

    1. The dry stone wall is my favourite part of the garden I think. I did have a lovely morning sat out there with my friend Debora. Looking forward to some paddling pool time over the weekend! xx

  10. That chair is perfect for relaxing in the garden! Sounds like you have a great day planned. Enjoy the sun and warm weather!! And I know how you feel about always having a dish cloth in hand, me too, always cleaning or wiping a nose or mouth...the joys of motherhood and being a stay-at-home-mom, I wouldn't trade it for anything!!!
