This weekend we:
:: tidied up the garden.
:: lamented the lack of fruit on our (probably dying) apple tree.
:: visited a wonderful local environmental centre.
:: learnt how to cook bread and fish on an open fire.
:: walked in the woods.
:: gazed at big views.
:: climbed Faraway Trees.
:: ate well - spinach and ricotta cannelloni, beef chilli, chicken stew, sticky toffee pudding.
:: went to the leaving party of dear friends and sat outside around a fire pit drinking red wine until the wee small hours.
:: put blankets on beds and dug out woolly jumpers.
:: switched on the central heating.
Autumn is finally, definitely here and she is beautiful.
Autumn is finally, definitely here and she is beautiful.
Sounds like a fab weekend! I'd have enjoyed it. I must share with you a "recipe" for making toffee apples over a tea light - you can do it outdoors (or just in front of Doctor Who, as Dave and I have done!) and I bet your littlies would love it!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a great weekend! xx
ReplyDeleteSounds a looks like a busy weekend. I was pondering whether to turn the heating on tonight. I resisted, but might not be so strong tomorrow if we have another day of rain! x
ReplyDeletewe have turned on the central heating too, what lovely weekend. the photos are so greatx
ReplyDeletewe also fired up the central heating. I really love the picture with the light coming through the trees.
ReplyDeleteLove your pictures and ow much you enjoy your family ... Our temperatures have dropped in the evenings but it's still a bit warm ( 80 F) during the days which is very unusual for the NW. We are enjoying some warm days and still some sunny ones also I love the picture with the leafs and the light shining on them. Have a good week my dear friend.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely weekend. I've resisted turning out the heating so far, though there was a distinct chill in the bathroom this morning :( x
ReplyDeleteThose photos reflect just perfecty the autumn atmosphere... Lovely !!
ReplyDeleteWhat a busy but enjoyable weekend. I'm loving the change in the seasons too!
ReplyDeleteJacqui x
yes ! autumn is here with its beautiful colors ..... I like it so much ! have a nice day !
ReplyDeletelooks like a wonderful way to start autumn x
ReplyDeleteSorry it took me so long to come back here Gillian. There have been some tough moments. I love autumn (but adore winter). It is always a pleasure to come here and look at your beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteSounds familiar. I got out the heavier duvet and also put a blanket on our bed. And the central heating was switched on last night for the first time in ages. I love the cosiness of autumn.
ReplyDeleteMy apples were a bit odd this year as well - lots of brown rot. Hopefully next year will be better. It sounds like a lovely weekend. Those vegetable labels are fab, I think I need some for my allotment, I always lose the tiny plastic ones. Skelton Grange looks fantastic, I'm glad you had such a good time. Blankets are out here too, but I'm holding off on the heating for as long as I possibly can. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteSounds like the perfect autumn weekend. We haven't turned on our heating yet but the blankets and jumpers are out...Have a good week! x
ReplyDeleteYip, autumn is well and truly here too.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love spinach and ricotta cannelloni. In fact, I think I'll make it myself this week! xxx
But you didn't dance to Billy Bragg in a garage
ReplyDeleteThat is true. :-)
DeleteThat all sounds absolutely perfect Gillian. I love your picture-perfect woods over there x
ReplyDeleteLovely pics, Gillian! It is interesting that you use she for the word Autumn. In Spanish all nouns have a gender so for example the moon would be "la Luna" ie. Feminine and the sun would be "El sol" ie. Masculine and of all the seasons, for us Spaniards, the only one that is feminine is the spring..... Isn't it interesting that we all have different associations depending on the language we speak?..... Have a lovely week, Pati xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures and what a perfect week-end, to be sure! I've yet to empty my garden (my son wants to get every possible extra day of light to ripen his hot peppers - now we have to keep an eye on the possibility of frost and cover the lot!) I've still resisted turning on the heat - one sleeps so well when one's nose is cold, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteLovely Pictures... yes Autumn is here and I love it too ... xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful indeed. Always great to catch up on your weekends. Mine seemed to be an endless round of taking children to parties!! Jo x
ReplyDeleteYes, we're definitely in autumn now, the leaves are falling, the heating is on and there's a coziness when the curtains are drawn.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos!
You do have some lovely weekends.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and memories.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
