Friday Happies

1. Sun after rain and the way it makes everything look, inside and out. Glittery.

2. A thrown together lunch which was surprisingly delicious: soup to use up a bag of on-the-turn spinach and some very stale bread, toasted.  Also, that pink and green look jolly nice together.

3. Playing hooky. Abandoning all WIPs for the lure of another chevron pattern. That soft pink with the dark grey...gorgeous.

4. Hot sauce.

My local supermarket, despite being the size of Luxembourg, has always had the most rubbish range of "exotic" products. I remember a time when they didn't even stock coconut milk. Waitrose it is not. But now, they have a "World Foods" aisle and it's a treasure trove of interesting things with colourful labels and brands I've never heard of. I could browse it for hours, and do. Food shopping often makes me happy.

And the hot sauce was fantastic on my fish finger sandwich, and also on another lunch that used up some dubious looking veg and a opened packet of noodles I found in the cupboard which was annoying me because it kept falling over and scattering bits of dried noodle all over the place. So I ate them.

It occurs to me that one of the best things about being at home is the things I can make and eat for lunch. It is definitely my favourite meal of the day because I can please myself and I'm not in a hurry. Yes, lunch makes me happy too. Make that number five.

  1. I love to look at exotic groceries. Sometimes I look at foreign countries' online grocery shopping just for fun! We've been using the same bottle of sriracha for about five years, it's the best value in the store, I think. :)

  4. It was all glittery here too earlier after a shower that was so heavy I feel someone somewhere must have had a flash flood.

So many good things in this post. I really need to do better when it comes to photographing what I do. You put me to shame. Although I do have some pics of my Haworthia plantings to share.

  9. I have had a week of using up leftovers. Sometimes you need to be imaginative with food, but I am not so much with lunchtimes as I don't think about spoiling myself!

  18. Absolutely agree with you about lunch, Gillian. During the week when I'm on my own in the house, I put together odd combinations of leftovers for lunch and feel happy that nothing is wasted. And there's no one to raise an eyebrow! :-)

  20. Hmm, slow enjoyable lunches are not something that we have around here most days! "All done, all done" is what I hear most of the way through mine, even though some little person is definitely not done!

  25. Love this week's happies. I think lunch is my favourite meal, too, and I'm going to have to give spinach soup a try. I've been searching the supermarket aisles here for pumpkin puree (for cakes) but sadly no joy.

  31. As one working from home I totally agree with you, I love preparing lunch for myself. I love dinner time as well when the whole family is gathered but lunch is somehow my own time and I can have what ever I want. ;)

I wish you a happy Monday Gillian.

  32. Food shopping is good, isn't it? Particularly the farm shop/local market variety. Some of the best places for me are those big oriental supermarkets (usually in cities), if only for the crazy packaging and massive woks.
Your crochet looks fab and I agree, the colours are lovely.
