52 Weeks of Happy...38/52

The happiest people don't have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything.

It's Friday and the sun is shining so we're already off to a good start. The weather today has been warm, really properly warm. I don't know if it's the southerner in me, but I think this summer has - bar the odd day - been quite cool up here in Yorkshire. The sun may be shining but the wind is often cold and calls for a jumper or cardigan. But today, the sky was a hazy blue and the breeze deliciously warm - even hot!! I love it. I swear I was made to live in warmer climates than ours.  So, joining in with the lovely Jen at little birdiehere are my happy moments from the last week.

1. Give Angus a hose on a hot day and he's happy for hours. I am treasuring every last moment I have with my boy before he starts school in September.

2. This is Bella's picture of London. I love her little drawings and keep them all in a box, sentimental hoarder that I am. She has been learning about London at school and is already fascinated by anything to do with the royal family, but when she learned we'd be visiting London over the summer holidays her excitement reached fever pitch. I'm quite excited too.

3. Family meals. We've been trying to eat with the children more. John doesn't get home early enough when he's working but on his days off we try to eat together, and have been rewarded by some truly lovely family meals that have been both rewarding and entertaining, although not particularly relaxing.

4. Murray is through to the Wimbledon finals. Woo hoo!

Wishing you all a very happy weekend. x

  1. Lovely moments from your week, Gillian! Angus seems to be having a blast playing with the hose. Bella's drawing is very lovely. I am also fascinated with London and the royal family... I am on royal baby watch! I love your family dinner photo! Very lovely tablecloth. We are keeping up with Wimbledon too. And that bottle of wine looks especially nice! Enjoy the weekend!

  2. Loving the warm weather too, though typically it's turned just in time for me to go back to work. Your last photo made me laugh as I've got a very similar one lined up for my next holiday post - feet, wimbledon! x

  3. Wonderfully warm in Sussex too.
I'm glad you're treasuring the moments with your young children. I can't believe my son will be 16 in a couple of months. Where did all those years go? And now I sound like my mother!!!
    Have a great weekend. X

  8. Looks like you're having some lovely summer days. Give ME a hosepipe on a hot day and I'm happy for hours. Can you try and sen some of that up here to the Hebrides? We have a distinct lack of summeryness recently and in it's place, wind and sideways rain... No fair. Although we certainly do happy plenty of happy days. Holly.x

  19. Another warm, sunny day again today, I love it. We didn't eat as a family as much as I'd have liked when Daniel and Eleanor were young either, but we more often than not do now. I love sitting down together and discussing our day.

  21. I love Bella's drawing. I too am a hoarder of my Alice's beautiful words, letters and drawings. Alice is really fascinated with the Queen and a few years ago I suggested she write to her, it was HUGE excitement when we got a letter back from one of her ladies in waiting! Maybe Bella could do this one day too :o) I'm loving all the sun and the fact that its hot, no chilly winds as you say...looking forward to tomorrows final at Wimbledon. Go Murray! Family meals always result in great times and so rewarding xxx Penny

  24. Love your choice of happy moments! Our eldest two are only 19 months apart and when they were small life seemed like one long mealtime! When we were finally at the point when we were all able to eat together things improved but,as you say, it wasn't very relaxing!! We persevered, added one more to our brood, and now consider shared mealtimes as key to our closeness as a family :-)

  25. We eat all together because bloke is home by 5pm but we take it in turns month by month to sit next to our 3 year old. I am not currently having jam spread on my shirt sleeves and getting up every five minutes to pick the fork up off the floor but my time will come in August! I am sitting by our 5 year old which is more civilised. The plus side of eating all together is that our children eat the widest range of food imaginable because they eat grown up meals with us and my kitchen duties are all done and dusted by 6pm. Enjoy your family meals. Jo x
