Friday Happies

1. The light. I've been watching it's play in the house as I go from room to room, doing my chores, loving the shapes the shadows create.

Soft and golden first thing in the morning:

Bright and sharp at midday:

Gentle and warm in the late afternoon rays:

2. The weather for most of this week. Cold, really cold, and mainly dry too. Creating those gorgeous shadows above, and giving us beautiful sunrises and pinky-peachy-lilac skies. How I love winter skies!

*

3. Wednesday morning, coffee and crochet with my dear friend Rachel. I dug out my precious bag of cashmerino yarn, a mixture of scraps and half-balls leftover from many different projects, and started a scarf in the v-stitch pattern, which I've not tried before.

*

4. Angus has new gloves. They have glow in the dark bones on them and he loves them. He has insisted on wearing them indoors to do everything, even brush his teeth, and he looks completely ridiculous. Of course, contrary and stubborn child that he is, I'm sure he'll flatly refuse to wear them outdoors in the cold.

Hello Jo/Joey from Bristol, who won the Cable and Cotton lights giveaway a couple of weeks ago - please can you email me your address and choice of lights? I haven't heard from you! I can't seem to see your email address anywhere on your blog or blogger profile page. If I don't hear anything from you by this time next week I'll re-draw another winner. Please do get in touch! :-)

I hope you all have a great weekend. It's raining here this morning and I'm very much hoping it stops before this evening, as we're off to our local bonfire and fireworks display. I think I might take a flask of mulled wine...

  1. Enjoy your bonfire night display, I miss those now we live so far away. I love the v-stitch crochet, its really funky. I'm thinking of making a cushion using that stitch, once I've figured out how to do it. Love the skeleton gloves!

  2. My littlest boy likes to wear odd things about the house too, quite often a hat or gloves with some other strange combination, like swimming goggles and a superhero cape. I think they must be developing their sense of style... The light is up and down here today, dazzling sun followed by leaden skies and rain. My littlest has a bonfire tonight as well, so let's hope it dries up. A mixed weekend ahead I am sure. I hope you enjoy it, whatever it brings. CJ xx

  4. I love that Angus wears his gloves all the time. Mine wear all sorts of peculiar getups too! Enjoy the fireworks. Mulled wine sounds like the perfect warmer! Bee xx

  5. Dismal weather here today ... those shots of the lovely light and shadows were a lovely reminder that the sun does shine sometimes ... even if only on Wednesdays lately hereabouts!

When my littlest boy was little - he's over 6ft now! - he was once found wearing his brand new corocodile wellingtons in bed. Luckily they hadn't actually been used to stomp through any puddles at that stage!

  6. Beautiful photos of shadows - I especially love the one with the feathers. I love the skeleton gloves too; you should take a picture of them glowing in the dark (would it come out?). Enjoy the bonfire tonight; we're, hopefully, having ours tonight as well (although it has rained on and off all day) and I've got baking potatoes all raring to go. Have a good one.x

  7. My son will wear a woollie hat indoors on the warmest of days....but can I get him to wear it now when it is cold and chilly?? No chance!! Children are soooo funny, I have to laugh or I'd go mad x

  9. I have enjoyed the light in your pictures. It has been bloody miserable here for the most part this week. Olly often goes to sleep in his Batman mask which always surprises me when I tuck him in at night
Have a lovely weekend. Oh and please look at my reply to your comment on my last post. Xx

  10. Angus's new gloves are so funny - no wonder he wears them all the time !
That will be a very colourful scarf, looking at your yarn bag - will look lovely in the gloomy days of winter !

  11. I like Angus' funky new gloves too and love your photos of the winter sky.
I wish I have a friend to crochet and have coffee with. What happy Wednesday mornings you have.
I hope the rain stops and you all have fun this evening. That flask of mulled wine just sounds perfect. x

  13. It's lovely to start a new scarf with such soft yarn - the v-stitch is a nice design. We had awful rain yesterday but today was quite nice. There was a lot of flooding though!

  20. Love the little stills from around your house to show us the play of light and shadow! I once did a similar post, although my stills are nowhere near as beautiful as yours:

Hope your night out was good, and nobody caught a cold :-)

  21. oh the gloves are so cute, no wonder he wears them all the time, but outside, no of course not, they might get dirty!

  22. Hopefully your son will get to wear his gloves outside. My son at that age always went to bed in his baseball cap but that was because he never ever took it off, day or night!
Really like the way you have captured the shadows in your photos.

  23. Loving the shadow play, throughout your house. Hope you all enjoyed the bonfire and firework display!

  24. It is interesting to watch the shadows at this time of year when they are so much longer than in the summer isn't it. I like your scarf! xx

  25. What lovely skies you've captured there. My son had a pair of gloves like that too. I don't remember him wearing them in bed though! Isn't it funny when children get obsessed with the little things?

  26. Beautiful photos as always. Have a lovely weekend x

  27. Kids are like that! It hasn't been that sunny here recently (after our gorgeous summer) and shadows are a bit thin on the ground :) I haven't crocheted in a while, think it is time to get back to it - once I finish my long long list of knitting done!

  28. Lovely sky photos. I love seeing little kids who get madly attached to a piece of clothing and won't be parted from it no matter the circumstances.

  29. Lovely pics. I'm so enjoying the skies at the moment. Angus reminds me of when Dan wouldn't take his robin (James was batman) outfit off, he slept in it went to school in it ..... I found not taking him on unless absolutely necessary was the way to go, because he was stubborn! The scarf looks great, couldn't work out the stitch. I'm afraid I am absolutely copying your cowl at the moment! Xx

  30. Hope your fireworks weren't too wet! BigR loves wearing her Hello Kitty ear muffs inside (but not out?!). The light has been amazing this week! Love the photos. xx

  31. Oh, I just love the late fall/winter skies!!! We have seen some beautiful colors here as well...since not much color remains in the landscape. Your scarf is going to be lovely...the cashmerino must be a joy to work with. Love the glow in the dark bone gloves!:)

  32. May I just say I love that you spent the afternoon noticing the shadows that different objects make in your home. Shadows are so interesting and beautiful, yet we frequently forget to notice them. Especially for creative people they are such a great place to find inspiration.

Also, the fact that your noticed the shadow that your Felt Ball Garland makes, made me so happy! Working at FeltBallRug.com I spend a lot of time noticing the beautiful different designs made with felt balls but I've never thought of about their shadows!

If you have a moment check out our website, I think you'll enjoy our rugs and our companies story!
