The happiest people don't have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything.
Before I go any further, THANK YOU for the truly wonderful response to my sewing questions. Really, thank you. So much advice, so many tips and recommendations. I still have not settled on one pattern but, rather troublingly, I want to make a top AND a skirt AND a pair of pyjama bottoms AND a scarf with bobble trim.
It's been a crazy busy week here and the days have felt relentless. There has been little time for blogging or crafting or much of anything really, just rushing, always rushing. But there have been blue skies, and washing hung on the line, and signs of spring, and it's March, so winter is coming to an end. There have been lunches with friends (clearly I'm not that busy) and wine and book group.
So, joining in with the lovely Jen at little birdie, I give you this week's happies:
1. The daffodil bulb that Bella brought home from school. We are watering it religiously and waiting impatiently for a little green shoot to appear. Bella's enthusiasm for learning and school always makes my heart sing.
2. Angus. My baby. I am treasuring every moment I have with him before he starts school in September. He has been a joy this week - smiley, chatty, busy and very affectionate. I like the way he has to line up all his toys so seriously when he plays with them.
3. Hot cross buns, toasted, liberally buttered and eaten with a cup of tea,
4. The kitchen window sill - goodbye poinsettia's, leftover from Christmas and reminding me of winter; farewell dead-looking cyclamen; hello fresh herbs in chipped and broken but still pretty mugs.

The kitchen windowsill plants look great. Very fresh for springtime. I understand how you feel with Angus getting ready to start school soon. My daughter only goes two days a week this year, three days next year, but it's hard letting go.
ReplyDeleteI love the windowsill full of mugs planted with herbs! I remember my son playing with plastic dinosaurs the way your son is playing with his animals. Those were happy days. You are wise to cherish every minute of it. :)

Great pictures and your son reminded me of my son when he was little... He loved lining his animals and cars...great memories...he is 15 now and a great young men. Also love the daffodil from your daughter... You brought me so many good memories... My daughter brought a flower bulb from school also... We still have it in our yard :) happy.

I so miss having toys in the house, it seems only yesterday that Daniel had all his animals lined up like Angus has, yet he's 18 now.
ReplyDeleteWe seem to be growing Emma B mugs in this house. I picked up a Comic Relief one last week and desperately would like to get the Coronation mug to go with my Jubilee one. Thanks for giving me a great idea for what to do with them as we rarely need to give 10+ people tea at the same time!

Some mugs are just too pretty to get rid of when they can't be used for purpose.

I have a obscene amount up in the loft. They are chipped or without handles, but I can't bear to part with them. I love my mugs.
A project for next week I think!

Love your blog, found it via last years post on the mice from mollie makes- making ours reduced me to tears last easter holiday but my kids adore them! It was worth it! This year am tackling Alicia from Posie gets Cosy's Maggie Rabbit pattern - no tears so far, can recommend it, felt not linen and no pesky turning inside out, im sure your daughter would love them. Loving your springy windowsill, my Emma Bridgewater mugs seem to drop to bits so have several that would look lovely like yours- good tip, thanks !

ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the fresh herbs - there's a pot of thyme and one of basil on my windowsill as of this week, and it's amazing how happy it makes me feel to look at them! I know you can get them in the supermarket all year long...but it's a sign of spring for me :)I love the animal parade - I used to do something very similar! Meredith x
