Thanks for all the brilliant biscuit feedback, I so enjoyed reading your comments! How could I forget about custard creams, chocolate bourbons, nice biscuits, malted milks, hobnobs and jaffa cakes...I must do more eating research.
We have been doing some very child friendly gardening lately, to perk up the little window box on Bella and Angus's wooden play house. I did my absolute best to give them free reign with it all and Not Interfere.
A trip was made. Plants were chosen at the local greengrocers. Bella chose a fuschia, a petunia, a geranium and a dianthus. All slected for their colour with no idea from anyone as to what would grow well in the little window box.
They were taken out of their pots and examined.
Planted and watered.
Then admired and photographed with moments to spare before there was a huge clap of thunder and it poured with rain.
I think Bella really enjoyed doing this. She'd been talking about it all week. When I asked her what she enjoyed most about it she said "watering them". I'm happy to know that, even at the grand old age of five, there is still of lot of fun to be had with a watering can in the garden. She's still little.
Oh, how I'd have loved a play house like that when I was knee high to a grasshopper! My parents had a shop and we only had a back yard shared with neighbours, no green space at all. But nonetheless, I had a lovely childhood so am not complaining! I was taken for a walk most days and I could see (just!) the sea from my bedroom window! But this is a children's idyll, a really lovely playhouse and a super start to gardening.

PS There is a good book you might enjoy on the subject of biscuits: A Nice Cup of Tea and a Sit Down (well, I think that's the title without checking on Amazon or high up on my bookshelves!)
We had a playhouse in our garden as children, raised up on steps, with a little balcony around the edge. Sometimes we would be allowed to take our duvets and pillows outside and sleep in it overnight. We loved it! Thanks for the kind words.

ReplyDeleteOh dear, I feel I've misled you - it is also damp, full of toys, and has a smashed window pane from when Angus bashed the window with a spade!
DeleteWhat a delight! And inside the play house it doesn't matter if it is raining (again!) I bet your little ones will remember the delight of planting this up for years to come. I think if it's going to rain much more I might move into a dear little wooden house like this one just to feel cosy!

DeleteI'm so pleased that Bella's favourite part was the watering as that's the bit that she can do over and over again all summer. It looks lovely and I love her choice of plants.
ReplyDeleteSuch a good point Jo! It would be tricky if the planting bit was her favourite, at least she can water them every day. Although with the current rain levels nothing actually needs watering in the garden!
