Spring is such an optimistic time of year. But spring in the woods, when the sun filters through the trees and everything is that particularly lush, verdant shade of green, like a green concentrate - that's impressive, and not to be missed. It makes me feel wide awake and grateful to be surrounded by so much colour. Suddenly there are leaf canopies overhead and cow parsley in the hedgerows. The kids found long sticks and played Room on the Broom with them - my two always walk for much longer and complain a lot less when their cousins are there. We admired picturesque cottages and grand houses, tried to identify wild flowers and talked a lot about how pretty the woods are right now. And, this afternoon, on a long, circuitous family walk, we found some bluebells. And not just a few, but a carpet. They went as far into the woods as I could see and my heart sped up when I saw them.
I loved your descriptions as much as your photos. I've never seen bluebells "in real life" but I always look forward to them on blogs in springtime. I'm glad you all had such a nice walk together.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely day! I love the room on the broom photo! It rained here for much of the day but when it stopped I walked over to my nearest bluebell wood and took a few photos (to be blogged soon!). I like your photo of the cuckoo flower, as well as the bluebells! I've just looked at the link to the park and see it's in Rowlands Castle - Dave's grandparents used to live there so he is familiar with the area, but I've never been, it looks a lovely place to spend a spring day!
ReplyDeleteOh so beautiful! Your cow parsley is out so early, our is nowhere to be seen yet here in Scotland X
ReplyDeleteOh, lucky you with all those bluebells. You never get the same ones here in gardens, only the Spanish variety. Maybe I should sneak some over.(lol). I've never seen kids playing Room on the Broom, but must tell my grandkids. All the photos are just beautiful and I can't wait for another holiday there. Take care and enjoy your spring.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, what a gorgeous walk. I love the foliage at this time of year, it takes my breath away, every single year. Green, green, green, everywhere. And everything so fresh and unblemished. Glad you're having a good weekend. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteI miss bluebells. I remember their sweet scent drifting up as we walked through forests when we were children. Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely walk - those bluebells are so cheering and I love the idea of a Room on the Broom game! x
ReplyDeleteSo very perfect. What a beautiful place.you are blessed :)
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely walking in the spring, so much to see, and as you say the scent from bluebells drifting about. I am also lucky enough to have the scent of wild garlic, although it will be over all too soon.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful place. The weather is set fair-ish for today so I think we'll be off out to marvel at the spring countryside. x
ReplyDeleteIt's fantastic, like an enchanted forest! And it is something I have yet to see in real life. So far, my annual Yorkshire holiday was always either too late or too early in the year for bluebells. This year, it'll be August, so once again no chance.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely walk and there is nowhere better than a beautiful bluebell wood in Spring. xx
ReplyDeletearent bluebells a lovely colour.
ReplyDeleteWhat a visual treat. I love it when the children make up their own little amusements.
ReplyDeleteWould there be room on the broom for a blogger like me?!

I do so love the green that is everywhere at this time of year, it all looks so fresh. And it is hard to beat a carpet of bluebells, although with us they haven't been quite so blue or abundant this year. Glad you had a lovely walk
ReplyDeleteCaz xx

Simply perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the lovely images. Looks like a great time! I think I spied white lilacs in full bloom.....wonderful! I am eagerly awaiting our bush to burst forth in bloom!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLast year, Myf and I discovered that there are actually woods on the hilll where we live (only took me 13 years to find them!)-we haven't been walking there much this year as I broke my wrist in the woods last August but over the weekend, Myf and I tok a trip through there and I was delighted to see bluebells everywhere! Nothing quite compares to that beautiful, dusky blue stretching over the green areas, it's absolutely magical.
ReplyDeleteMy photos don't do them justice-thank you for sharing yours, they're stunning xx
Love this time of year xxx
Gorgeous bluebells! We were admiring banks of bluebells along the lane yesterday evening ... I must go back with my camera when the sun is out.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of 'Room on the broom' but it looks like fun. It must be lovely for the children to have their cousins living so near by, I honestly think, given the distances involved, and the fact that only one of my or Ted's siblings has children, that I could count on my fingers the times our four met their cousins while growing up, which is quite sad really.
I haven't heard of room on the broom either but it looks as though they are having great fun. Aren't the bluebells just amazing at the moment. I have only had peeps through the trees as I can't get about in the woods but Abi has taken some amazing photos for me.
ReplyDeleteThe wood at the cabin is like that every year, it never fails to inspire me. Jo x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! There is a wood need us that is a bit like that too, such a wonderful sight :)

I think the bluebells are amazing this year - there's a carpet of vibrant blue as far as the eye can see in our local woods. Your pictures capture them beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThe bluebells are gorgeous! I've never seen those in person before. Hope you are having a great week!
ReplyDeleteI love this time of year (except for the rain) and the bluebells are the best. The cowslips have just arrived and the wild onion, glorious. Xxx
ReplyDeleteYou described spring in perfect words! Isn't it wonderful how everything seems to wake up and bloom again? I really love this time of the year!
ReplyDeleteTake care
Anne (Crochet Between Worlds)
