I found these pictures on my memory card while going through all the photos I took this summer. They were taken in August on Hayling Island seafront, while staying with my parents. The beach is south facing and open, and provides wide views of sparkling water and the Isle of Wight.
It's so built up here, where we live in Leeds. There are no big sky views, only snippets and slices, glimpses through buildings and rooftops. Living in a city has it's pluses and minuses.
But here, down on the beach, you can see the sky. You can watch the light change as the storm rolls towards you then away again, you can see the horizon. I'm ready for another sea fix, I think. We might aim for a day out to the Yorkshire Coast this weekend, if the weather cooperates. John has his first weekend off since June so I feel that is worthy of celebration!
Do you have any great views or vistas where you live? What do they look out onto? Are they a joy or a distraction?
Beautiful photos! When I look out my window I see trees, which are beautiful, but I have to get my fix of the sea regularly. Just to sit and look out across the beautiful sea lifts my spirits.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures. So much blue! I see rolling hills, lots of trees and little snippets of the nearby lake! And big skies! I love where I live in the countryside. I have lived in cities too but I love the countryside. I've returned to my roots. But I love the sea too. Hope the weather plays ball and that you get your beach day. Bee xx
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful photos. I live in the countryside near the Moune mountains so I have really great views. The Mournes in one direction and the Dromara Hills in the other. Not to mention all the beautiful rolling countryside and drumlins.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos, so much to remember the beautiful skies, salty air and those gorgeous children running around. I look out at the woods/swamp behind my house, but love to make it to the beach to see the open sky and waves rolling in.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Great photos. I love the coastline round here. I'm lucky to look out at green fields from my house and office - although it can definitely be a distraction! Enjoy the sea at the weekend. x
ReplyDeleteI love your photos - especially the ones with beach huts and brooding skies.
ReplyDeleteWe have some great views around here, mainly of moors and hills. The best are when you poke your head out of the attic skylights :)

Beautiful pics! I love all of them but specialy the one with the kids.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can understand me... my English is like a beginner.

Amazing photos - my 92 year old neighbour would particularly love them. She was a meteorologist during the war and is fascinated by clouds. My view is mostly trees which is lovely, but I yearn for a sea view. Love those beach huts and the colour of the ice cream against that gorgeous blue sky. Have a great time at the weekend - I'm very envious. x
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your special family weekend-fingers crossed the weather is kind to you.
ReplyDeleteLovely seaside photos-the beach huts...just something so beautiful, a line of colour.
Have fun
Helen
Lovely photos, Gillian. One of the things I love most about going to the sea is seeing the horizon. It always gives me a sense of peace and a feeling of space inside. xxx
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great family weekend. I wish I could visit the beach more often, I do love it there. I'm fortunate to have gorgeous views where I live, even within the city. It's probably the very best aspect of living where I do.
ReplyDeleteLove those pictures. We live on the edge of town and lucky to be so close to countryside and the Cleveland Hills on one side and, in the other direction, the coast. I remember feeling oddly claustrophobic when we lived in Warwickshire, in the middle of the country.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the "Sea Fix." Gillian. I never tire of seeing the sea, and treasure the 7 years I was able to live two blocks from it. While I can not see vast vistas from my windows at home I enjoy seeing the trees, and birds, and glimpses of the sky, sun, moon, and stars, and am just a few blocks away from vistas of fields crowned with majestic, Mt. Hood.
ReplyDeleteI just scrolled back through your posts I somehow missed [can my blogroll be broken ?] I so enjoyed your photos of light, first day of school, chaos, and order restored; and I am delighted that you have the opportunity to use your giftedness in a new venue. Bravo!!! xx
That is a nice sea fix for us as we are in land-locked Shropshire - a trip to the sea is a big thing for us. My favourite view is from the cabin - one of the reasons for building it there. From home we have great views because we live on the edge of a small town in a three storey house so one side we see victorian chimney pots of all shapes and sizes and on the other side we see fields, but of course no sea views. Great post as ever. Jo x
ReplyDeleteI don't know about great views but I'm happy if I can see greenery. There's nothing like views of the sea though. x
ReplyDeleteLovely thanks for sharing, my favourite view from the house is across the fields to the local windmill, sadly there are plans to build houses on the fields.

What beautiful photos of a wonderful place. Little glimpses of fields and hills here. Not far away are rolling hills with wonderful views though, they are places I love to go to. Places I can breathe deeply and detox from the stress that comes with modern life. I hope you manage to see the sea this weekend. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteHayling Island was our destination for a couple of holidays when we were little so will always remain a happy place in my head.

These are beautiful, so summery. Love the storm building up through the pictures.
ReplyDeleteYes my dear friend, that is one of the reasons we moved... We have a wonderful view from almost every where in our house and I love it. But I have to say nothing compares to a view of the beach... How gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI do not have any lovely views from my house. It's probably why we like going away so much. Where my Mum lives on the edge of Leeds you can walk up the hill behind her house and see views for miles; across Leeds city centre, to the power stations at our end of the world, the Moors over Ilkley and on a clear day Emley Moor. However, nothing beats the big skies at the sea. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteYes! Finally! We moved to our present city from over built flatlands, three years ago. Now, we live at 6800 feet in elevation, with a mountain range going directly up over 14,000 feet, just to our west. To our east are hills that are beautiful, as well. I can walk upon them and look for many, many miles in every direction. I love where I live, now.
ReplyDeleteI could just eat that ice cream!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy being by the sea or where I live, by the river. Water and clouds are ever changing and just sitting watching either is quite therapeutic.
Big skies and sea air are so refreshing. I only live about 45 minutes from Hastings but busy lives mean we don't get down there as often as we'd like. We don't have a 'view' from our house, unfortunately we're surrounded by houses now. My favouite local view is from a large stretch of woodland not far away; from the edge you can see trees and fields for miles - breathtaking in the autumn and very peaceful. Great pics as always. Have a lovely week Gillian.

nothing beats a view of the sea. I could spend hours watching it x
ReplyDeleteLove the seaside and big skies, so beautiful. My parents live in Lincolnshire so when I visit I get my fix.
ReplyDeleteOh, I loved this post so much!! I can HEAR all of these pictures--just what I needed after a hectic day.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of the beach, I thought I recognised it. We are just east of Hayling!
ReplyDeleteWe live in a very flat part of Denmark and in a tiny town, so we don't have to go very far to have great views of land and sky. I grew up in a more hilly part of Denmark and must admit that I still prefer that sort of landscape. I love big city life but also have the need to have open views easily.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to "find" photos that you forgot you took! We have a local park that is surrounded by corn fields and so is a great blue sky/white cloud watching place, with no buildings in sight.
ReplyDeleteI love those skies xx
ReplyDeleteI'm probably the luckiest of all your readers in that respect. On my daily walk I can see the sea, the mountains the valleys. My drive to work is gorgeous. I lived in London for 10 years and I loved it, but now I am glad yo be back in the country.xx
ReplyDeleteLovely pics! I love the one of everyone in the sea and the beach huts of course, how can you not love a beach hut!
