I thought I detected the slightest shift in the seasons yesterday, while we were out walking. The breeze was cool and the light softer than it was a couple of months ago. The blackberries are early and plentiful this year, and we picked enough to add to strawberries, redcurrants and blackcurrants to make a Summer Pudding. The leaves are losing their vivid depth of green and taking on a slightly faded, tired look, as thought all the colours have been turned down a notch.
I realised with a bit of a jolt that high summer has slowly become late summer, without me really noticing, and autumn is not that far around the corner.
There is a definite sense that the 'night's are fair drawing in' and autumn sneaked up.
ReplyDeleteI just don't know how it happens so quickly... it seems like summer only just began... I do love autumn though...
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great up coming weekend! Tammy xx
Yes, summer is on the wane here in the south too. I love how your boy is heading towards the gate, rather than the gap. :)
ReplyDeleteYes! He wanted to swing on it and see if he cold climb over it. :-)
DeleteI've noticed how many berries there are around and how there's a coolness in the air in the evenings. I'm hoping to do some blackberry picking over the next couple of weeks while I'm on leave - it's one of my favourite late summer things to do. x
ReplyDeleteYes, my dear friend I also notice that summer is slowly starting to sleep away ... However, althought I do love, love summer I also look forward to warm tea and cozy evenings sitting by the fire and more knitting. Summer is not over yet though.
ReplyDeleteThe same here ! Little signs of fall are already showing...
ReplyDeleteOnly a few days ago, I was declaring on another blog, that autumn only starts here at the end of september...
Oops... I think it's because spring and summer was incredibly early this year, that fall has decided to pop up early as well. I don't mind, every season has his advantages...
I've been feeling it too. Looking forward to all those vibrant colours!

We are waiting on Spring here. Wish I had some blackberries growing close by.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that too, this morning as it was really chilly on my way to work. Way too early for me, though! If I could choose, I would live in permanent 30 degrees (Celsius) weather!!!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I love the heat! But I do also love the change of the seasons and have to say that autumn is a favourite. I hope we get some warmer weather in September.
DeleteI don't know what is going on here in Cumbria, the weather is definitely not summery it's dull and wet so summer definitely feels over! Particularly love the leaf photo the light is beautiful. Xx
ReplyDeleteOh yes, fall is coming. I actually like fall but this summer has been so wonderful I just want it to last!
ReplyDeleteSame thing over here: autumn is definitely in the air.
ReplyDeleteIt is noticeably cooler here too, but then it has been very hot, almost too hot some days. I have started making preserves and am quite pleased at the lower temperature, with the door open the kitchen is still warm when the jam pot is bubbling away. Fingers crossed for an "Indian summer"
ReplyDeleteTrue, true, I am eying up the elderberries to make wine, there are loads in our field as well as blackberries. Jo x
ReplyDeleteFour seasons is a wonderful invention; I love how people are so happy (mostly) to see the world change. It's funny when you consider the lengths the modern world goes to to prevent change. I am looking forward to getting home, collecting my blackberries and making a decent crumble, to the first proper casserole of the year and to damp mornings when the leaves are cooking in late Indian summer sunshine!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!
DeleteI've noticed the subtle change too - whilst I love autumn, I have really enjoyed this summer and will be sad to see the end of it!

Yes, I am ever hopeful that this week has just been a blip but as the nights draw in and there's just the faintest of chills in the air as we head into late evening, I have to agree with you!
ReplyDeleteHey Gillian,
ReplyDeleteBut I love Late Summer. I have noticed the turn of things too.
Leanne xx
You're right, I can just detect a little something shifting slightly. Onwards, always onwards. Good things are coming. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteThe seasons are definitely changing here too, I'm noticing it especially in the cool evenings and the leaves of our horse chestnut tree... Autumn is indeed just around the corner. xx
ReplyDeleteYour photos of st yves are bringing me great memories of our time there. It was beautiful, there was something really special about the place. I love your embroidery design, it's really cute. Am in Spain at the moment so don't really have time to send a lot of comments but I'm still here, reading lovely posts of my favorite blogs.... :-)
ReplyDeleteI've noticed a change here too, I just don't want Summer to end though! xx
ReplyDeleteHow right you are. Another summer is almost over and it's hard to believe. Our blackberries aren't ready for picking yet.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, there's definitely change in the air. Have to admit my favourite seasons are autumn and winter.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to know that Autumn will be arriving soon, it will still be months here but I am looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Do hope your autumn isn't too cold. As per usual your photos are just lovely. I envy your talent with a camera. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you Susan! x
DeleteOh I feel it too! I'm so withe Sue (The Quince Tree) Autumn is the most exciting time of year. Your pictures are lovely and really capture that moment when we slip into late summer x
ReplyDeleteI've noticed a change here too. You are right about the colors seeming to be knocked down a notch. Your pictures are beautiful (as usual), and they really capture the feeling of late summer.
ReplyDeleteWe were saying the same thing only yesterday-the nights are slowly getting longer, but noticeably now. The back door isnt staying open as long and we even lit the fire in the didning room the other day-it was only a couple of days before that I had made the proclaimation that "we wont be using any coal until September" how wrong can you be!"
ReplyDeleteI am denying to myself that summer is moving on and that autumn will be coming along! It seems too soon yet. xx
ReplyDeleteIt is too soon. Fingers crossed we get a gorgeously warm September. x
DeleteI couldn't agree more with you. I am still enjoying summer, not wanting Autumn to chase in too soon, unless it is going to be filled with those lovely sunny days that we used to get loads of in September and October xx
ReplyDeleteYes, you're right and we can feel the change in weather here too and I am soooooo looking to summer here!!!! Have a happy weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteLove

Not at all! I love summer but look forward to the onset autumn like no other season. I just would rather it came in late September... x
