Warming

Cold mornings, but not cold enough to be frosty. Pancakes for breakfast, fluffy and golden. Pottering with the pots on the mantel. Bright green shoots, pussy willow and dried billy button flowers. Soup for lunch, hot and aromatic, full of ginger and star anise. Lighting the fire in the afternoon. The sound of rain blowing against the windows. Homemade pizza in front of a Scandinavian crime drama on TV. An extra blanket on the bed. Morning coffee in the gloom. A grey garden. Hail storms. Bacon and egg sandwiches on thick cut white bread, with ketchup. Recycling the Christmas tree. A trip to a new yarn shop and the start of a baby blanket for a friend. Winter things. Warming things.

  3. What a nourishing weekend.
We had hailstones last night, they frightened the cat!
Bacon and egg is a winner whatever the weather I reckon.

  4. Thanks for a lovely warming visit, Gillian. It is cold and breezy here and although it is cozy inside, I am sitting here typing to you with a warm Stewart tartan flannel blanket on my lap and just finished a warming cup of coffee :) xx

  10. We've been doing much the same. I rearranged by bookcase shamelessly copying your idea of sorting them by colour, I'm now very happy.

  12. Are you watching Borgen? I've heard its wonderful!
So envious of your wood stove. Crossing my fingers that we get one next year. It looks so cozy when lit. Also, I'd like to curl up in that chair surrounded by your baskets of yarn.

  13. What a scrumptious cosy and warming post. Hygge I believe, if I have it correctly. Love the look of that soup. I made pizza with the littlest boy yesterday which most of us enjoyed. Your mantel is looking lovely, I do SO like the wall hanging, the colours are perfection. I'm envying you your fire, wonderful at this time of year. And I'm wishing you a good week Gillian. CJ xx

  19. Some of your winter things are hints of spring already, so nice to see!
After a way too dry October, November and December, the rain has finally reached us here, too - just in time for getting back to work (first day at the office today). That way, I won't miss out on anything :-)

Your pizza looks fantastic, and so does the soup. I'm not keen on anise, but ginger is one of my favourite spices.

  33. We've got the same weather here... I love pancakes/crêpes and prepare them usually in big batches, so I have dough for several days. I have a super easy pancake recipe (with grain but no wheat) let me know if you are interested.
I usually love winter, but it has been way to mild this year for me to really settle in it!

  35. Hey Gillian,
Are you familiar with the blog Peonies and Poloroids? She has written a post about why she likes January. That post, and yours here are just what January is all about for me. I love the sound of that soup too!
