Here is a flavour of the last few days, as my camera and I potter around the house, snapping here and there.
Enjoying poached eggs on sourdough for breakfast, or lunch, or any meal really.
Admiring the cable-knit scarf my mother-in-law knitted for Bella ("It's just a little pattern I made up, it's nothing fancy").
Feeling excited (SO excited) to have won Jooles' wonderful giveaway from her shop Sew Sweet Violet. Such beautiful wrapping. Violet coloured, of course. I love details like that.
Unwrapping the advent calender bunting and hanging it in various rooms. It's stunning. Jooles, thank you so much. Allowing myself to feel the first flutters of excitement for Christmas. Panicking a very little bit about the homemade gifts still be, well, made.
Embracing a vintage vibe with my sepia-toned hydrangeas next to the postcard of Virginia Woolf.
Enjoying the sun.
Enjoying the rain, when I'm warm inside looking out at it.
Collecting leaves in every colour.
Knitting, still knitting, with that naughty, splitty, expensive but unbelievably soft alpaca yarn. I am doing respite crochet in between rows.
Seeking bargains in the charity shops and being rewarded with these pillow cases.
Teaching Angus that real men wear aprons when they make apple crumble.
Savouring every mouthful of John's spinach and ricotta stuffed cannelloni.
So, that's the last few days. Welcoming my parents, walking in woodland, knitting, trips to IKEA, housework, cooking, eating. A lot of eating. We were going to find a local fireworks display tonight but it's cold, raining and very windy, so we're hiding at home instead. I've got a cup of tea and some apple crumble with custard right here and I'm happy.
Looks like a lovely cosy weekend Gillian ... love the photo of your men in the kitchen ... very cute ... enjoy the rest of your weekend lovely ... Bee xx
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos, I love your weekend. Xxx
ReplyDeleteHi . All those lovely things. It is really strange because I have been considering treating myself to more expensive yarn but that is the second post I have seen lately with problems with pricey yarn. Maybe I will be happy with Stylecraft after all.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos to capture a beautiful weekend! I'd happily welcome Christmas early with Jooles' advent bunting, lucky lucky you! :-) Your knitting - and your MIL's - is gorgeous (love the 'respite crochet' in between!) as are your men in aprons! ;-) Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteSo jealous you won the Sew Sweet Voilet giveaway - I was really hoping it would be me!! :o) Congratulations, such a lovely prize!
ReplyDeleteMaria x
Wonderful photos Gillian. I love your mother-in-law's casual aside. The sourdough and eggs looks delicious. I've been trying to grow a sourdough starter, and tonight was the night I tried making an actual sourdough loaf. It's proving at the moment, so I don't know whether it'll turn out okay yet. It's tricky stuff I think! I love the picture in the kitchen and the cannelloni. I do wish my other half would do something other than heating up oven chips once a week. Sigh. Hope you have a good Sunday.
ReplyDeleteMmm, that spinach and ricotta cannelloni looks delish! Love the hydrangeas with the VW postcard - they look so beautiful as they dry. Good plan to hide at home with apple crumble instead of heading out into rain and wind - it's similar weather here too, ugh! x
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely weekend and full of so many happy things. I cant decide which is my favourite though the poached eggs are pretty high up there. I love a poached egg on toast and can now make them but only 'after a fashion'. My favourite night away from home involves anywhere that serves proper poached eggs! All your other lovelies are great too and lucky you winning the prize.
ReplyDeleteA lovely insight into your days Gillian. Thank you for sharing. xx
ReplyDeleteSounds like they have been a fabulous few days, cosy and comforting. Love the hydrangeas, might have to see if any of mine have survived this rain. Great pillow case find too.
ReplyDeleteSo much warmth and goodness coming from these snapshots. Mostly making me hungry! :) Holly.x
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy and lovely weekend you're having! Love those pillow cases- a great find! x
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, as always! Autumn days are my very favourite, you've captured the cosiness of the season perfectly. These those food shots are making me hungry, poached egg for breakfast I think!
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to have won Jooles advent banner. It is so nice.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good week-end to me.
I hope you share what you making for your Christmas gifts.
Hi Gillian - now I want poached eggs, for breakfast tomorrow morning, but I have to go buy sourdough bread for the toast. Maybe I'll have two! My hubby would love them, too. Nice scarf for Bella. And I LOVE the advent bunting. Lucky you! Pumpkin seeds, a hubby that cooks with your son, your knitting; it's all just great, as are your photos. Warm and wonderful! xxoo JO
ReplyDeleteBliss, all bliss. I love your world x
ReplyDeleteI love this. The sourdough looks delicious, did you bake it yourself? We've had our starter for years, I love having sourdough anytime I want some. I hope you enjoy your apple crumble, baked with love by your talented men.
ReplyDeleteNo, I wish I had baked it myself! It was a gift from a talented baker friend. x

A lovely insight into your weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post, there are so many things to be said... The first picture make me hungry! I wish I'd be able to knit... I have tried but did not succeed. This wrapping is so lovely, but the advent calendar is fantastic... I made one myself last year, but I was late so it was something very basic... the flowers brings lovely colors and we have had so much rain too... I love you leaves collection... nice. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely post. The eggs look divine!!! Such beautiful photographs. I'm sure your children will love the treats hidden to countdown to Christmas.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your win, the bunting is beautiful :-) I hate splitty yarn too (who doesn't!) but I'm sure it will be well worth it in the end
ReplyDeleteIt all sounds so wonderful at your house ... can I come stay a few days?!!
ReplyDeleteWhat incredibly beautiful advent bunting you have won, I can see why you were so thrilled to win, it's so pretty, enjoy filling it up and watching the children delight in it too when the time comes.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of the boys together in the kitchen.
