May and June on Instagram

It's been months since I shared any Instagram images on here. It will never supersede blogging for me, but I enjoy it enormously, especially on those occasions when I don't have my "big" camera with me. People seem to use Instagram for all kinds of reasons - to promote a business, or to showcase their photography - but I like it most when people use it to make friends and share their hobbies and passions, and to capture and share the everyday in an instant way, and that's how I like to use it too.

So here are a few snippets of May:

Row one, feeling blue:
Sunset. Bowling. The tiled floor in the Natural History Museum. A heart in the clouds.

Row two, spring greens:
Quilt drying on the line. Children in a maze. A gate on the way to school. Sandals and daisies.

Row three, everyday life:
Making jam tarts. A messy kitchen. A good day for washing. A sunny spot.

Row four, looking downwards:
Pancakes for breakfast. Sketching. Cake break. Angus turns five.

And a few from June:

Row one, out and about:
I've been into Leeds three times this month, that's unheard of! Shopping, lunch, theatre, you name it, I've been gallivanting.

Row two, looking downwards:
Map garland. Cake and a new book. Drinks in a friend's garden one evening. The makings of a Victoria sponge.

Row three, heat seeking:
The view from the school playground one hot morning. The kid's playhouse. Garden shadows. Blue skies.

Row four. family life:
Before the theatre. After the theatre. The loom band obsession begins. Father's Day tray.

I'm here if you want to come and find me. I love finding blogging friends on Instagram. Come and say hello!

Thank you so much for all your recent comments. I feel like I've neglected this space a bit lately. Well, not neglected it, but I don't feel that I'm as "present" as I usually am, if that makes sense. Life is just too hectic at the moment, but it will soon settle down again and I'll have more time to be here, to think, to craft and to visit your blogs too.

  1. Lovely collections :)

I don't use instagram but it does appeal to me. I don't use it because, from what I can gather, I have to upload images straight from my phone to instagram but I don't have a good phone camera. Maybe when I upgrade my phone, I'll join in. As long as it's not only for iphones, as I don't do i-anything!

    1. Yes I think that's right, but I believe you can use it as an app on a tablet too, so if your tablet has a camera you can upload onto instagram that way. But since that means lugging your tablet around in your handbag, that seems daft to me. No, it's not only for iPhones, I can't afford one of them and have an LG nexus which seems to work perfectly well enough for me! x

  2. I think the hectic life thing is going around, hahaha! I peek in on others while sneaking a sit-down with a cup of coffee, but realized yesterday that I haven't posted in two weeks!! Crazy how fast time goes, and though it is so cliché, it does seem to just go faster and faster - I want a pause button!! All your pictures are lovely. My daughter's arm looks like yours pretty often (covered in bracelets - I would have adored this craft at their age!) Enjoy your season of gallivanting, children, and lovely weather!

  3. Ah your pics are always gorgeous Gillian, and such busy happy times you've been having, it's not surprising that you find yourself a wee bit unsettled at present - it'll all come together again soon I'm sure of it! Thank you for sharing your experiences via your pics and I just have to say, it's always so nice to see a line of lovely washing blowing on the line! xoJoy

  5. Fave pics are the kitchen of chaos (lol, glad it's not just mine!), washing on the line (no idea why in love seeing washing on a line so much) and the gate, gorgeous :)

I don't do Instagram. I don't really get it. Facebook for pictures? Think it would just be something else to get addicted to ;)

    1. Ha! Yes, Liz, I think it is a bit like facebook for photos. There isn't really a point to it, it's just fun and another addictive, time wasting device!

  6. I'm glad, judging by the comments, I'm not the only one bewildered by Instagram. I have a Blackberry and would love to join but haven't got a clue how to go about it *reminds self to look up 'Instagram for Dummies'*...
Your photos look great. Must have a proper look at them later on my big PC :)

    1. I think it's just a question of downloading the instagram app onto your blackberry, but I'm not sure how you would do that. x

  7. Love your photos. Glad you are blogging them, as I can't get into Instagram. I find the computer takes up, more and more of my time lately and I know once I satrted, I would become addicted. The more time spent on the computer, the less time for making things.

  10. I do love phone pictures, and I have always loved instagram pictures. I was on instagram but came off it last year. I loved seeing pictures that people posted of their surroundings, because they could be anywhere in the world, and I loved seeing what they saw when they were outside. Places in the world I would never see otherwise and it was fab. I loved being inspired on there too, but I found it got really weird. It became less about the photo and more about where you got everything from and what you were wearing. I started to see everybody looking alike, talking alike and people were losing their individuality that I had loved on their blogs. I also found that I neglected my blog massively too. Everyone I knew through blogging transferred onto instagram and their blogs dried up too. I didn't want that, so I left to concentrate on blogging instead. Maybe one day i'll go back to instagram as I miss daily beautiful scenery from all around the world. You have the right balance Gillian! xxx

    1. Yes! That is one of the things I love most, that feeling of connection with someone on the opposite side of the world. Instagram can be precious and cliquey, things seem to go in and out of fashion in a week, but I avoid all that and just go on the for the crochet and food photos, mainly! x

  12. Lovely photos! I think I shall be a little sad when my life stops being as hectic as it is no matter how much I complain. I've never signed up for Instagram but I do see the benefits of taking part. Hope you have a great week.

  13. Lovely pics. My favourite row is the 3rd row in May, lovely domestic scenes. Looks like you are enjoying some beautiful blue skies. We don't have Fathers Day here until September. I love that instagram just catches the moment, no pressure for the perfect vignette. Love.

  15. I've only recently joined instagram and I'm surprisingly loving it to. It's nice just to share an image rather than write a whole post to go with it sometimes!! x

  17. They're gorgeous pictures. I'm a newbie on Instagram and I can see how easy it to lose yourself on there, so I'm trying to be restrained, but oh the temptation. I'm looking forward already to reading your blog hop post next week, thanks so much for taking part! Sarah xo

  18. Hope this doesn't turn up twice ... Blogger has hiccups. I was saying that I just can't seem to remember to stop and photograph things unless I went out deliberately intending to do just that. But I do enjoy looking at these kinds of life shared images.

  19. I'm really enjoying Instagram in the same way, making friends and discovering beautiful things. I love your feed enormously! I struggle to blog as much as I did now I work full time and find especially hard in the summer with busy school stuff on, holidays and so much to do outside. Nice problem to have though. Instagram is perfect for capturing the moment I think, something I love to do x.

  20. I feel the same about Instagram, I just enjoy the little everyday moments...mostly it just feels like flowers dogs and cakes...but is that really so wrong?? ;)

  21. Lovely photos! I just started using instagram, and am loving the simple, moments captured each day. Thanks for sharing yours with us.

  22. I loved finding your 'snapshot' as I've just done one too - http://stonefruitseason.blogspot.com.au/2014/06/do-you-instagram.html . I've only started on Instagram and am really enjoying it. I've discovered another world of friends who use it that don't necessarily blog. It's like another piece of the puzzle, really, don't you think?!

  23. Instagram is wonderful for dipping into a couple of times a day and getting a burst of colour and glimpses into lives of those here, there and everywhere. Blogging will continue for me too, well once my energy levels return.

  25. Oh I love, love, love your collages. Photos just work so well together and look so good in groupings. It looks like you've been having a nice time, with plenty of outings. I know what you mean about it being hectic. I always find the summer term a really busy time for some reason. But you are living your life to the full, and it doesn't get better than that. CJ xx

  26. I'm not on Intstagram so it's lovely to see some of your photos here... you have captured some lovely details. Your photos are great as always and I like how you have made them into a collage.
I am the same with life being very hectic at the moment! Things will settle down soon though...

  27. Hey Gillian,
Well I for one am glad that your life is hectic, and that you aren't trapped under something heavy. I'm afraid I've become a bit of a IG addict. I love it as a way to chronicle everyday instants. That's how I use it. Not planned or posed. Just point and press. I like the end result. I like it as a collection of life chez me.
My blog has been a tad neglected too. I'm doing lots and then flopping into bed with a book.
    Leanne xx

  28. I know exactly what you mean about hectic! I don't want to quit my blog--but so many other things are going on all the time it is hard to fit it in. Not to worry--even if you don't regularly post, I still come around and read eventually.

  29. I love Instagram too Gillian for the same reasons as you however not everyone uses it that way and it has really spoilt my experience of it (exactly as Coco Rose describes) and I don't quite know what to do about it other than switch off every now and then.......... I see the Loom Bands have made their way into your house, we are almost finished with the craze but it was around for a good 6 months :-) Mel x

  30. I don't do Instagram but I like the idea of catching a few pictures of everyday life and the way you have put them into groups. Great pics as always Gillian. Enjoy the rest of your (hectic) week.

Hello there! Thank you for leaving a comment. I read them all and I always try to answer questions, although sometimes it takes me a while.
