This weekend we:
- woke to blue skies.
- drank iced coffee in the garden.
- admired the cow parsley along the paths.
- went to the local carnival.
- ate ice creams.
- forked out cash for overpriced inflatable slides.
- bought a chocolate shake from the cutest caravan.
- walked home in the afternoon sun past the church.
- got the barbecue going.
- drank rose in the garden when the kids were in bed.
Sometimes, just sometimes, the stars align and the weather is glorious when it is John's weekend off. Oh, it was a gorgeous weekend and we made the most of it. This time last year, almost to the day, I wrote a post called Carnival, in which we did very similar things but in the rain. Well, we went again this year and it was sunny and what a difference it makes! Everyone so happy and smiley, enjoying the outdoors, the kids in shorts and t-shirts, me in my flip flops, John wondering if last year's sun cream is still ok to use (I'm never sure - we used it anyway).

Do you remember how I shared the appalling state of our car with you last week? Well, rather hilariously, John found out on Friday that he has to car share to a meeting this week and give a lift to two colleagues. Cue manic car cleaning this weekend. He spent two and a half hours this morning washing and waxing it, vacuuming the insides, polishing the windows, dusting the dashboard. He even bought some upholstery cleaner to get rid of the juice stain! We now have one fragrant, shiny, tidy car. For about a week, anyway.

I have almost finished replying to all the comments on this post. It was exhilarating, reading them all, joining in the discussion. Thank you. Normal service will resume now.
I was just wondering whether you'd attended this event again yet this year. I enjoyed last year's post about it so much. It's been hot here and we've had the kids' pool set up in the backyard this weekend. Yesterday I was digging through the pool bag and found last year's sunscreen (I use a spray type) and was wondering if I should use it again and I went ahead and did it. I need to buy more this week, though. It's the dregs that are left and it'll all be gone soon. I realized that I'm going through it faster now, probably because their bodies are bigger.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that your festival was full of fun and bright blue skies. I had to laugh about the car, nothing like a surprise trip with colleges to get it all sorted out.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you,
Meredith
Everything is much better in the sun. I love weekends like this one. everything just falls into place. I always wonder about the sunscreen. This year I have bought the boys a factor 50 kids spray one each for their school bags from Lidl. It was really inexpensive at 2.99 each They used it this weekend so that they got the hang of applying. The sun is supposed to be still with us tomorrow. If only it would stay all next week for half term/
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you had a sunny weekend to enjoy the festival. I could totally go for that yummy ice cream cone right now! And a glass of rose in the garden sounds like the perfect ending to the day.
ReplyDeleteYou've had a fun weekend! How cute is that vintage caravan? Enjoy your warm, sunny days.....ours are fading fast! Mel x
ReplyDeleteWow, I love that caravan and the idea of iced coffee as well.. Looks like beautiful weather in your part of the world. Enjoy it while it lasts!! Xx
ReplyDeleteIt looks very chilled in your garden - especially once the kids have gone to bed. Lovely photos of the carnival too xo
ReplyDeleteGlorious weather, isn't it? I love your ice cream photo.
ReplyDeleteI can't find my flipflops anywhere. Jay said, 'We'll get you some more. It's not like they were expensive, is it?' I said nothing. They're Havaianas so they're not a reasonably-priced flipflop...
I do like a freshly-cleaned car. One day!

ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a fantastic weekend ! Especially the cake and ice cream part look véry appealing ;-)....
Hasn't it been lovely. I really enjoy watching Matt play cricket in the sun. A perfect afternoon. So different to last year where we spent so much huddled under blankets drinking hot chocolate. I may need to go and buy some Pimms to take next weekend if the sun stays out! Have a great week. Xx
ReplyDeleteYou've had a busy but happy weekend, making the most of the glorious sunshine we are having, Gillian. The car story made me smile!
ReplyDeleteJacqui xx
It was a lovely weekend, the weather was glorious & it does so make a difference. Apart from trying to scrub out mud stains from a pair of football shorts mine has been spent in the garden. Loved the car story.
ReplyDeleteSounds and looks like a fab weekend - loving the milkshake caravan! There's really no place better to be than the UK in the sun :-)

ReplyDeleteMy mum has the very same wine glasses you used for your rose, what a coincidence is that? Your weekend looks like so much fun! Ours was good but the weather wasn't playing nice. Enjoy your week. x
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely day for a local carnival and sounds like rather nice weekend all together. Funny how cars get a good cleanout for taking other people somewhere. Ours did today as we have visitors arriving on Wednesday from UK for a couple of days whilst they are in Oz. Enjoy your week and take care.
ReplyDeleteHip hip hip hooray! (sorry but I couldn't help join in with the song)
ReplyDeleteThe sunshine, the warmth of the sun, doing family things, (we had our grandson's christening) and just chilling out and relaxing, just made for a perfect weekend.
Glad you enjoyed yours!

ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a lovely weekend! The weather was glorious, wasn't it? We had a lovely time here too. I spent an hour on Saturday morning paper piecing a quilt (that's taking aaaages to make) whilst I was having my morning tea and it was just bliss.... Good weather does have a big impact on people's mood and sense of relaxation...., doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteIt is really lovely that you took the time to reply to every comment on your "boredom" post (thank you!), it was definitely a theme that stroke a chord with a lot of people and I also enjoyed reading everyone's comments.
Have a lovely week! I always look forward to your posts.

Aah, I can just feel the warmth and sunshine of the weekend - it truly was gorgeous and if only the rest of the summer would be like that. We had bramble gin cocktails rather than rose :) x
ReplyDeleteGlad that you had such a good time, sounds as though it was a fun weekend all round. Not sure about those flying chair ride things though, they look scary to me! That is so funny about your car after your description and then John having to clean it like mad. You must feel as though you have a new car! xx
ReplyDeleteA lovely selection of photos Gillian - really sums a beautiful summer's weekend in England.
