Have you been on eBay lately? I've long been a fan, for the last fifteen years or so, buying old things, vintage things, hard-to-find things, new things, beautiful things, useful things. Purchases as diverse as retro Denby plates, Orla Kiely scarves, second-hand toys and even cake decorations. I buy more than I sell on eBay, probably. Anyway, they have a very exciting new collections feature, for which various different bloggers have created their own moodboards around a particular idea or title of their choice, displaying all sorts of lovely, well chosen items.
I was asked to create 12 collections, each around a theme that was completely up to me and, let me tell you, this was enormous fun. It was like a cross between using Pinterest and going shopping, two things which are pretty good fun anyway in my opinion. I spent many happy hours browsing eBay, looking for items which I could never normally afford to buy and merrily adding them to my collections, and enjoying the overall look of those different images coming together to create a pleasing visual compilation.
There was a fair amount of wish fulfilment going on, if I'm honest. If John ever relents and agrees to let me have another baby (highly unlikely) then I already have the perfect nursery all thought out in my New Baby collection. And in my Retro Kitchenware collection I enjoyed browsing every single Catherine Holm kettle, tea pot, coffee pot and casserole dish I could find. But instead of bidding or buying, I just added to my collection. Likewise, in Kitchen Kit, I've got pretty much every colourful kitchen accessory I could wish for, in my virtual kitchen. And, should I ever take possession of an allotment, my How Does Your Garden Grow collection contains every pretty garden implement I could find, which I'll admire while I sit in my bunting-strung shed on my deckchair, drinking tea. (Funny how actual, muddy gardening never features in my allotment fantasies...)
Like I said, a lot of fun.

Oh yes I find ebay completely addictive so I try and stay well clear as I find it near impossible not to spend money. A lovely collection xoxo
ReplyDeleteI haven't been on eBay for ages, my husband however is often on there and buying stuff! The account is in my name so I often receive random parcels.......
ReplyDeleteFunny I posted today about Pinterest and pinning stuff to make that you never do. This looks like a similar time sapper!
What fun! Although maybe I should steer clear ... I'm a big eBay fan too and I can see this could become another time suck that also potentially drains one's bank account!
ReplyDeleteI sell lots on ebay and I am amazed what people buy! That does sound enormous fun. Jo x
ReplyDeleteI've never bought anything from ebay! I see from your boards though that there are lots of things that you like that I like too!! The mixer, the garden twine Le Creuset and Cathrineholm to name a few!! Lots of fun to go shopping and not spend anything! xx
ReplyDeleteThis does sound like fun, I use ebay a lot in fact I flicked from ebay to here just now! I've just listed a few things to sell but like you I buy far more than I sell!
ReplyDeleteI was kind of hoping you were going to announce a new baby was already on the way. :) This does look like fun. I don't buy a lot from eBay, but I'm on it several times a week just to browse. Your collections are lovely, it seems like you're really enjoying yourself.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like good fun, I love the look of your collections! xx
ReplyDeleteThat really sounds fun and yes we all dream of lots of ideas. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea you could do this, what fun! So nice to plan what you might like to have one day.
ReplyDeleteI love Ebay it is so uncomplicated and you can find just about anything you might ever want. I bought some ric rac just yesterday, there was so much choice! I better stay away from the collections feature, I already spend far too much time on Ebay as it is....
ReplyDeleteI love ebay too. You can find anything, if you are prepared to search long enough.

I didn't know you could do this. I love browsing ebay...you find so many things you didnt realise you needed, wanted or existed!! :)
ReplyDeleteSomething like Pinterest, oh dear, I fear I would never be off the laptop!

I don't normally shop on Ebay, but occasionally I'll get into it for a while. Last Fall I sold (and bought) a bunch of Zutano baby clothes for my daughter, but then ran out of stuff to sell - darn. No more shopping. Congratulations on being asked to do that - pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! It's like Pinterest with spending money...this could be dangerous. ;) Oh, and you mentioned the odds of not having another baby and being broody for a puppy...this is exactly why we got Molly. :)
ReplyDeleteI must say I have never used Ebay, but this looks like fun...

I'm holding you and only you responsible for my entire evening on ebay and subsequent purchases!!
ReplyDeleteOoo now this looks interesting I like you tend to buy more than I sell! You never know what you might find. Your collections look fab x
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen thus yet, it looks great. I go on ebay a lot but find ebay+PayPal+a few glasses of wine don't mix .... Far too easy to spend money!
ReplyDeleteI have been browsing on-line greater than 3 hours nowadays, yet
ReplyDeleteI by no means discovered any attention-grabbing article like yours.
It's beautiful worth sufficient for me. Personally, if
all website owners and bloggers made good content material as you probably did, the web can be a lot more useful than ever before.
