The happiest people don't have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything.
Have I really only got one more week left of this project? I've enjoyed it so much and I don't really want it to end. Joining in with my friend Jen at little birdie, here is my penultimate selection of happy moments from my week:
1. Finding a bag of rhubarb from my father-in-law's allotment in the freezer when I thought we'd eaten it all. It was washed, chopped and ready to use, and I tipped it into a dish to make a crumble and ate it in front of Downton Abbey on Sunday evening.
2. Unpacking my quilt from the blanket box and making up the bed with an extra layer. It's the only quilt I've ever made and is full of wonky seams and puckered fabric, but I love it all the same.
3. A picnic at Kirkstall Abbey last Sunday. The weather was warm and sunny so we took a lunch of soup and sandwiches to the abbey grounds and sat on the grass to eat it. I didn't think we'd be enjoying eating outside so late into September and it was an unexpected treat.
4. I bought these two postcards by Helen Peyton at Yarndale last weekend. I very much wanted to buy a print but they well were out of my price range. These postcards make a perfect souvenir.
And lastly - wow, what a great response to my giveaway! I am so glad you share my love of Emily Peacock, tea towels other good things, and it's especially lovely to know that so many of you are already readers. It makes me happy, it really does.
My giveaway is still open, here, and will close on Tuesday 8th October at midnight.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
Oh, what a lovely week! I love the bed quilt, and the garland is perfect over your bed. Your bed looks so cozy and inviting. The picnic sounds very nice, and it sounds as if the weather was also very nice. I really like your new postcards. I buy postcards often when I visit a gallery since the artwork is (usually) out of my price range. Happy weekend!

So many happy moments. I love freezing goodies from the allotment, eating home grown summer harvests in the depth of winter cheers me up no end. I planted out a couple of rhubarb crowns this year so I'm hoping to get a small harvest from them next year.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is too beautiful Gillian and looks perfect on your bed! Loving those postcards too. I an
ReplyDeleteM a bit of a postcard collector, they make me happy and in my dreams I would gHave a wall covered in them in my home.
It has been surprisingly warm this September, we have just had to dodge the rain so far, no early morning chills yet. I hope this last week of your 52 weeks project is just as joyful xox

ReplyDeleteI like your kinda happy! Chrissie x
ReplyDeleteI think your quilt is lovely. My favorite one that I've made is pretty rough; I made it when I was fourteen and my sewing skills were minimal, but I still love it. I really like those postcards; I'm big into postcards as artistic pieces around the house. If you can order from Zazzle.com in the UK, they have an amazing selection of postcards and they're super-cheap, I recommend them highly. :)
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is just lovely! Thank you for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely week. I love your quilt too, I think the puckers and wonky seams make it charming and lovable. I also love your quote ... The happiest people don't have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything. ... We certainly dont have the best of everything .. ( unlike some of our neighbours ! ) but I must remember to make the best of everything Thank you for sharing your lovely thoughts and happy moments.
ReplyDeleteLovely pics and post as always love the quilt and cards crumble sounds lush too :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely photos. I've been picking the first of my rhubarb and just had it stewed with yoghurt. We've had a couple of nice days out at Kirkstall Abbey when in the UK. One of my sister-in-law lives in Kirkstall. Enjoy your weekend. BTW, the quilt looks fab and it's the enjoyment of making it that matters.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really lovely post with such beautiful pictures and words. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love Downton Abbey, rhubarb and old abbey.:)
ReplyDeleteLast year I blogged about my daily Reasons to be Cheerful journal I kept and filled with primitive sketches and simple thoughts about what cheered me during the day. I miss doing it now that the journal is full I realize as I appreciate your photos and reasons for being happy. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos and thoughts, Gillian :)
